1) Do you support or oppose elected officials relying on their religious beliefs and values to guide their decisions for South Dakota?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I support. A person’s religious beliefs and values define who they are.

Support R House Scott Odenbach – The Judeo-Christian faith undergirds our success as a civilization. Why would we not recognize that when considering the great issues we face?
2) Do you support or oppose efforts to reduce the number of abortions in South Dakota?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I support. I believe in the sanctity of life.

Support R House Mary Fitzgerald- I strongly oppose abortion, human life is sacred, holy and precious.
Support R House Scott Odenbach – Abortion is the moral issue of our time. All good men and women should work for alternatives that respect life and lead to its elimination.
3) Do you support or oppose the SD State Lottery spending money on advertising the Lottery?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I can support limiting advertising but not a total ban until the State can find an income replacement to the general fund.

Oppose R House Scott Odenbach – Video lottery is an embarrassment to our state. The societal costs outweigh any fiscal benefits. Gambling should all be done in beautiful Deadwood, South Dakota.
4) Do you support or oppose a reduction in post-incarceration restrictions with regard to employment?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I support. Once a person serves their sentence and are released, we want them to be economically self-sufficient. Restrictions can be counter productive.

Support R House Scott Odenbach – In general this is good if the debt to society has been paid. However, not in certain sensitive positions, i.e. sex offenders near/in schools, etc.
5) Do you support or oppose provisions that would allow a medical professional to assist another person in committing suicide?
Oppose R Senate Timothy R Johns – I oppose legislation that would allow medical assisted suicide.

Oppose R House Mary Fitzgerald – I oppose, because it allows a person to take away a God given right to life, and innocent life is sacred.
Oppose R House Scott Odenbach – We should respect human life from birth to natural death. 20th century history illustrated that assisted suicide is a slippery slope leading downhill.
6) Do you support or oppose requirements that personal and creative service businesses produce goods or services that may violate their conscience?
Oppose R Senate Timothy R Johns – Other than constitutionally required, I oppose any legislation that restricts a person’s right to act according to their conscience.

Oppose R House Scott Odenbach – In America you should be able to decide whether to bake the cake or not bake a cake for whoever you want at your private business.
7) Do you support or oppose expansion of low-income medical assistance (Medicaid) in South Dakota?
Oppose R Senate Timothy R Johns – Given the current financial crises affecting the State’s revenue I oppose any expansion of medical assistance for low-income person.

Oppose R House Scott Odenbach – Medicaid expansion is not the answer to the healthcare issues we face. Greater government involvement does not automatically equal better outcomes for the poor.
8) Do you support or oppose legislation to increase parent choice in educational-choice options?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I support any legislation that would increase parent choice in educational-options as long as it does not unduly financially impact public education.

Support R House Scott Odenbach – It has been truly said that school choice is the civil rights issue of our time. You can support both public education and school choice.
9) Do you support or oppose limitations on the use of cross-sex hormones and/or genital surgery for minor children who identify as contrary to their biological sex?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I support legislation prohibiting elective genital surgery as such decisions should only be made by the child once they reach the age of majority.

Support R House Scott Odenbach – The fact that this is even an issue is a sad commentary on our society. Good people with courage need to say enough is enough.
10) Do you support or oppose protections for speech and expression, if the speech or expression may be considered by some as highly offensive?
Support R Senate Timothy R Johns – I support free speech even if highly offensive. If one’s speech is defamatory the law provides a recourse.
