Why are you the best candidate for the job?

I am deeply committed to serving the community that has given me so much. My current involvement spans a diverse range of civic and service-oriented organizations, including the City of Rapid City Comprehensive Plan Advisory Team, the Elevate Public Policy Committee, the City Sustainability Committee, and the Humane Society of the Black Hills, where I serve on the Fundraising Committee and volunteer regularly. I also mentor through the TeamMates program with the school district and am a proud graduate of the Elevate Leadership Institute.

Engagement at multiple levels of community life is essential to gaining a meaningful understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face as a city. This well-rounded involvement allows me to approach leadership with a broader perspective—one grounded in collaboration, public service, and a commitment to strengthening our institutions.

One of my central motivations for running for City Council is to ensure that the decisions made at City Hall reflect the full spectrum of experiences within our community. I believe that representative government thrives when a variety of voices and lived experiences are at the table—working together with mutual respect and shared purpose. Imagine a Council composed of individuals who not only bring unique perspectives but are united in their willingness to listen, learn, and work tirelessly for the common good. That’s the kind of leadership I aspire to contribute.
In addition, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to help engage the next generation in local governance. I hope my candidacy demonstrates to younger residents that their voices matter and that civic leadership is within reach. Our democracy is strongest when it inspires participation across all age groups, especially at the local level where decisions directly shape our daily lives.

When asked how I differ from my opponent, I want to begin by affirming my genuine respect for him. We are fortunate in Ward 5 to have a choice between two individuals who care deeply about this community. I have no interest in negative campaigning. Instead, I invite voters to explore our positions, backgrounds, and values across a variety of platforms.
