If elected as Mayor, what will your top priorities be in office?
If re-elected to office my priorities will remain working to grow Mitchell, and help improve our Main Street.
In the past few months, we have been able to implement a Sales Tax Grant plan, to help provide some incentives for businesses to relocate to Mitchell, or expand in Mitchell. Several retailers have looked at moving to town, but costs associated with establishing a location in Mitchell prevented them from advancing the idea of locating here. This will provide some incentive to help make that decision easier.
Our Main Street is seeing many positive changes, and we would like to see it continue to move forward, creating a desirable market place for our residents and surrounding communities to shop.
How would you define the proper role of government, and how would you apply this to your role as Mayor?
Local Government has the role to provide public safety, infrastructure, community services, economic development, education, and planning and zoning.
Public safety – work to insure proper funding, and staffing, for police and fire departments. Support the efforts of the public safety team to help them perform their duties to the utmost ability.
Infrastructure – Maintain infrastructure and make improvements to facilitate the City’s growth and extend infrastructure to keep pace with changes in City limits. Budget judiciously to best use funds available to the City to expand and maintain the infrastructure.
Community services – Maintain facilities such as parks, libraries, community centers, and recreation facilities to give residents a quality of life. Fund these facilities to ensure residents have amenities to use for health and relaxation.
Economic development – promote growth and the business climate to retain jobs and create jobs.
Education – Work to keep the residents informed and abreast of happenings within the (word limit)
